If you don’t have a toddler at home, you might not be familiar with the banger “Gimme That Garbage” by Danny Go.
But I am lucky enough to have my son who request that song on the regular – and it is my inspiration for the HMMM this week.
MANAGER ACTION: Let’s not ignore the garbage that’s piling up this year so far: polar vortex, mass layoffs, devastating fires, etc. Even the small things pile up and impact your team. People on your team need to be seen and heard, even the negative. Take a moment to address the trash and throw it away instead of ignoring it and letting it pile up.
Ask your team, “What garbage have you had to deal with the past week?”
MAKE IT VISUAL: Again, if you feel like engaging multiple senses, you can start the meeting by playing “Gimme That Garbage”* and then sharing an on-theme image, like the one below.
INDIVIDUALS: Use this image as inspiration and take a moment to doodle/list out all the garbage going on with you since the start of the year. It’ll help to acknowledge it and get it down on paper.
