SCENARIO: The company you work for is not one that’s closed between Christmas and New Year’s, BLERG.

Which most likely means the company’s holidays are on Wednesdays this years; smack dap in the middle of the week. Makes for a cluster of when people are taking PTO or in the office.

MANAGER ACTION: Make space for a conversation around this in your team meeting.

Talk about when people will be in the office so everyone has a general idea of who will be around and who won’t and what expectations are.

Then ask “What is your focus during that time?”

This gives people an opportunity to share exciting personal plans, or things they want to get done while in the office (or if they are feeling very vulnerable, open up about how this is a hard time for them, and they are just trying to make it through the end of the year).

MAKE IT VISUAL

  • Make a Role Call Chart
  • Have everyone designate with fun emojis or colors when they will be in or out
  • Share this visual

VIRTUAL/HYBRID MEETING:

Pull the Role Call Chart up on your screen during the video call and have attendees annotate or draw. You might need to create the Role Call as a whiteboard to access this feature. Screen shot the answers and email it out after the meeting.
