SCENARIO: You need a reset after sitting through 2 long meetings. You’re having a hard time concentrating and starting to get irritable.

MAKE IT VISUAL

  • Draw circles on a piece of paper.
  • Turn those circles into something else and doodle away.
  • Colors, shading, shapes, whatever calls to you, just have fun with it and give your brain a break from thinking about work topics.
  • Aim for 10 minutes of doodling.
  • Only “rule” or “right way to do it” is by having fun with it and not putting any pressure on yourself.

This activity pairs nicely with: standing up and stretching, a brief walk (before or after drawing), getting outside, intentionally breathing. You know, all the other nice break/reset things.

Reuse this exercise as needed. Make adjustments as needed. Can challenge yourself by using circles again and coming up with new something elses. Or could switch it up and use squares. Then triangles.
