Scenario: You have your team meeting tomorrow and you want to know how your team is feeling. It’s been a bit of a rough start to the year for you and you suspect it might be the case for others. You want your team to know you understand and are here for them if they need to talk and that you value them for more than their productivity.
Default Option: Open the team meeting by asking “how is everyone doing today?” To which you are given the standard responses of “good” “ok” or silence since it’s a hybrid meeting and everyone’s on mute.
A HMMM Option: Draw out some stick figures beforehand (or use the ones I drew) and display them on the screen. Kick off the meeting by explaining which one you’re relating to most today and why. Then invite others to share if they’re drawn to any of the other figures and how they’re interpreting that figure. You could even nudge them to draw their own stick figure if none of yours are a match.
